The PGA Tour traveled to Texas for the first time in 2024 as preparations for the upcoming Masters continued. A full field, headlined by World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, last year's U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, and defending Texas Children's Houston Open champion Tony Finau returned to the Houston area for the first of two stops in the Lone Star State over the next couple of weeks.

With the first major championship of the year two weeks away, a plethora of the best players in the world would use the two events in Texas not only for the prize purses that would be divvied out but also as a tune-up for Augusta National. Meanwhile, the Texas Children's Houston Open would present others who had not already secured their place in the first major of the year an opportunity to earn their spot in this year's majors and the upcoming Masters.

Several players found themselves in an excellent position to do exactly that as part of a tightly congested leaderboard going into Sunday. Five were tied for the lead after 54 holes with another seven within two strokes of the leading pack.

While there were numerous intriguing storylines in play heading into the final round of this year's Texas Children's Houston Open, all eyes would be upon Scottie Scheffler as the No.1 player in the world attempted to follow up his win at the 50th PLAYERS Championship with what would be a rare third straight victory on tour.

Whether it was attempting to complete a remarkable feat in the sport, or breaking through and earning that life-changing victory on the PGA Tour, this year's field of competitors were playing for both glory and a substantial payday, but exactly how much was this year's Texas Children's Houston Open prize purse and what was the winner's share? Let's take a look at this year's purse and payout distribution by position.

Texas Children's Houston Open purse 2024: Total purse and winner's prize share

The Texas Children's Houston Open purse for 2024 is set at $9.1 million with this year's champion set to take home a substantial $1.638 million in prize money; around 18% of the overall purse for this year's event at Memorial Park. The $9.1 million prize offering at the 2024 Texas Children's Houston Open might pale in comparison to some of the hefty sums that are on offer in the majors and signature events this season, nonetheless, it is still a significant amount for a regular full field event this season on the PGA Tour.
