With Father’s Day coming on June 21st it’s not too soon to start thinking about exactly the right gift for the golfing dad in your life.  You can always fall back and pick up one of those remarkably colored ties decorated with golf balls and tees, or some amazing argyle socks, even though as we move into summer they’re probably going to spend more time in his sock drawer than on his feet.  Or, you can do a little on-line shopping for a piece of special equipment that’s going to get a big smile and a summer-long workout.  Here are some ideas to help you out.

Clubs are always a good gift idea for golfers.  All of us have fourteen on them in our bag, and there’s always at least one that’s not working correctly.  But whether you give the golfing man in your life a pricy set or clubs or a more modest sleeve of golf balls to commemorate Father’s Day, take him to the golf course and treat him to a round of golf and a burger.

Taylormade R15 Driver

This big-ticket item doesn’t guarantee 4 strokes off an index, but it’s going to draw some envious side-glances.  The R-series driver is easily adjustable and all the R-series clubs are engineered to increase distance and compensate for those inevitable mis-hits golfers dread.

More from Pro Golf Now

  • Most technologically advanced driver ever from TM.
  • Key feature: Two sliding split weights that allow the golfer to adjust shot shape (draw, fade, straight).
  • Key to the performance of the R15 is the low and forward center of gravity (CG) – a strategic placement of weight which promotes faster ball speed with less spin.
  • Offered in Black and White and in two heads sizes (460cc, 430cc).
  • MSRP: $429

Adams Blue Hybrid

If a single club’s been on your mind but you think your golfer should select his own driver, give some thought to a very versatile utility club like this one.

  • The Easy Launch System in the Adams Blue hybrid consists of three amazing features that work together to give golfers more air (and who couldn’t use high launch, draw-biased, easy-to-hit fun on the golf course?)
  • How it works:
    • Velocity Slot Technology – The sole slot gives golfers more flex and more speed across a larger area of the face.
    • Low/Back CG – Keeping the CG low & back allows for more spin and more speed on more shots
    • SlimTech Shaft – Allowing for more kick and easy launch
  • MSRP: $179

 adipower Boost

GAME GOLF

Check out my earlier review of GAME GOLF for more details.  The recreational golfers I know who are using this innovation are very enthusiastic about it.

  • GAME GOLF is dedicated to bringing innovative ways for golfers to connect with their game through wearable technology.
  • The small, lightweight device is worn on the player’s waist and individual, feather-light sensor tags attach to the top of the grip on each club.
  • GAME GOLF automatically records the course, location on the hole, club used, club distance, and accuracy as the golfer plays.
  • Golfers can then see their game and club performance to help them improve online at GAMEGOLF.com.
  • GAME GOLF also includes a social media component where the golfer can share their round, compare to others, and compete with friends or colleagues across the country and world.
  • MSRP: $199
  • Available at: www.gamegolf.com

Taylormade RSi irons

  • Features Face Slot Technology designed to improve consistency and distance on off-center hits.
  • Results gathered by TaylorMade Golf from thousands of golf club fittings revealed 76% of all iron shots are mis-hits struck outside the center of the face.
  • TaylorMade Golf’s new RSi iron features three distinct models; each designed to appeal to the performance needs of different player types.
  • MSRP: $799

AeroBurner 3-wood

More from Equipment

  • Most aerodynamic fairway wood ever from TaylorMade.
  • Key feature: The largest open channel speed pocket (first seen in RocketBallz) in the sole to increase the club’s sweet spot.
  • “Aero hosel” (small fin located at the heel of the club to reduce drag), raised center crown, and rounded toe section all work together as a system to improve aerodynamics.
  • Low and forward center of gravity (CG) – a strategic placement of weight, which promotes faster ball speed with less spin.
  • MSRP: $229

Project (a) golf ball

  • TaylorMade has designed an incredible golf ball for competitive mid-handicappers who need more approach-shot spin.
  • 3-piece cast urethane construction promotes low driver spin for long distance, and high short game spin to help amateurs stop the ball faster and have shorter putts.
  • The new SoftTech™ cover generates high spin, soft feel, and improved durability.
  • MSRP: $31.99 a dozen

ADIDAS GOLF

asym energy boost

We saw these new Adidas asymmetrical shoes at work at the Masters this year.  Sergio Garcia and Jason Day are both wearing them, and that’s not a bad recommendation.
