Inbee Park, Lydia Ko and Stacy Lewis are paired for the first and second rounds.  Ko’s 2-under 69 was the better score in this much-trumpeted pairing of the Big Three.  Park carded a first round 1-over par 72 but she needed an uncharacteristic 33 putts to make her way around a track she knows well; and Lewis, with a 2-over par 73 puts her in the trailing position for Friday’s second round.

Melissa Reid, with a whopping 6-over par 77 has some work ahead of her on Friday if she hopes to play the weekend.  Those pesky Evian greens were Reid’s opening round undoing.  Perhaps she learned enough to get herself back in the game on Friday.

Suzann Pettersen’s 4-over 75 wasn’t very impressive either.  Pettersen just couldn’t buy a birdie  Perhaps, like Reid, she’ll find her groove and make up the difference in her second round.

Defending champion Hyo Joo Kim’s 2-over par 73 wasn’t the game she delivered last year but she’s starting her second round above the projected cut line, and I look for her to tighten up and deliver a better round on Friday.

I had hoped for better than a 3-over par 74 for Yani Tseng’s first round.  Tseng was wild off the tee and not much better on the putting surface.  Perhaps she had first round nerves and we’ll see a different game on Friday.

The second round of the 2015 Evian Championship tees off at 7:45am local time Friday morning with Lexi Thompson and Mi Hyang Lee sharing the top of the leaderboard at 5-under par.  The field is tight. Gerina Piller, Eun-Hee Ji and Pornanong Phatlum are right behind them at 4-under par and a pack of six starting at 3-under par and in the mix.  The weather forecast has changed and early morning rain in unlikely, but in the French Alps in September, almost anything is possible and weather changes come with short notice.
