Lexi Thompson: A Closer Look at the Player and Her Bag
Lexi Thompson earned her 6th career win this week at the LPGA KEB HanaBank Championship and with the 500 points that went along with the win Thompson moved into 4th place in the million dollar Race to the CME Globe. The 20-year old, who is currently ranked 4th in the Tour’s Player of the Year contest, will also move up to 4th in the Rolex Rankings as a result of her HanaBank win.
Here’s how a winner smiles:
Thompson’s been having a solid 2015 season. She’s finished inside the top-10 in half the events she’s entered, including a 7th place finish at the ANA Inspiration, a 3rd at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and runner-up to Lydia Ko at the Evian Championship.
Thompson and Cristie Kerr were an unbeatable pair at the 2015 Solheim Cup and Thompson pulled that same powerhouse game out of her bag in Korea that she was working at St. Leon-Rot.
Thompson makes up for her weakness on the putting surface — she ranks 111th on the Tour in putting average and didn’t do much better at the HanaBank, averaging 31.5 putts per round — with an exceptional long game. Thompson beat her own GIR average of 77% in Korea, getting to 89% of the greens in regulation over four rounds of play!
You can get away with a few more putts and still hoist the trophy when your long game’s paying like that!
Thompson plays Cobra clubs and she talked about how she puts her sticks to work at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

"“It feels very solid, and I love the ‘Sunday’ blue. I also love looking down at it and having the confidence that it’s good for me. My usual ball flight is a 10-yard draw, but I can work it left to right, too.”"

HYBRID
Cobra Fly-Z 2/3, 17.5°
"“I use it to go for par 5s. I like the lower flight, especially on windy days.”"

Thompson and the rest of the Tour are winging their way on to Taiwan and the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship, the Tour’s 3rd stop on the fall Asia Swing. I’ll take a close look at the Fubon field and target the featured groups early this week.
