Tiger Woods arrested for DUI in Florida
Tiger Woods, still recovering from back surgery, was arrested for DUI early Monday morning in Florida and has since released a statement on the incident.
UPDATE: Tiger Woods says alcohol was not a factor in his arrest.
Earlier on Monday morning, much like every other sports media outlet in the world, ProGolfNow reported Tiger Woods’ arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence in Jupiter, Florida. It was not known whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident but in a statement to USA Today Monday evening, Woods said that alcohol did not play a part in the arrest.
"“I understand the severity of what I did and take full responsibility for my actions.“I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.“I would like to apologize with all my heart to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself too.“I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again.“I fully cooperated with law enforcement, and I would like to personally thank the representatives of the Jupiter Police Department and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office for their professionalism.”"

Tiger Woods has been relatively quiet in his absence from the PGA TOUR, recovering from yet another back surgery, but unfortunately, he’s back in the news for other reasons today as the 14-time major champion was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence overnight in Jupiter, Florida.
According to a report from WPTV in West Palm Beach, Woods was taken into custody at approximately 3 a.m. Eastern Monday morning. He was booked into Palm Beach County Jail at 7:18 a.m., and released on his own recognizance a few hours later at 10:50. It’s not known whether Tiger tested positive for drugs or alcohol. The PGA TOUR is refusing to comment on the story at this time.
Woods has enjoyed a career in which he has avoided major legal troubles. Even following the revelation of his personal infidelities and divorce from Elin Nordegren, his image has been nearly flawless. His split from skier Lindsey Vonn was outwardly amicable and he’s been more devoted than ever to his young children.
Frankly, he’s returned to the Tiger Woods of old in public, and that’s been remarkable progress for a man who was once unapproachable to anybody out of his innermost circle.

Woods had dismissed the notion that he would consider retiring from the PGA TOUR recently. In fact, he recently said in his official blog that he “unequivocally” wanted to return to professional golf, saying that he’s been pain-free and finally able to enjoy his life with his kids. Woods has seemed, after so many years of battling to destroy his competition, at peace with his legacy. He’s happy, and that’s more important than anything in golf.
Woods has been recovering from a recent lumbar fusion. Possible connections between his recovery from that surgery and this incident are not clear at this time. However, it is important to allow Tiger’s adjudication to unfold without trying the case in the court of public opinion, absent an inappropriate rush to judgement.
