The PGA TOUR fall events include 7 regular events, a WGC, a new Korean event and 3 post-season events.

The PGA TOUR has released the fall 2017 portion of the 2017-2018 schedule.  It includes seven regular PGA TOUR tournaments, a WGC event, a new event in Korea,  and three post-season events which are typically co-sanctioned by the PGA TOUR.

Safeway Open begins the season the week of October 2 in Napa at Silverado CC, followed by two weeks in Asia.  There, the PGA TOUR has the CIMB, played at the TPC Kuala Lumpur, followed by the WGC HSBC in China.  In addition, a new special event, the CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges will be played in Korea between the CIMB and the WGC event.

In addition, in the U.S., Sanderson Farms will be played opposite the WGC CIMB for those not qualified to play in the WGC event.  Last season, William McGirt wanted to play Sanderson Farms instead of going to China, but he was not allowed to because he qualified for the WGC event.  Instead, he played in the Sanderson Farms pro-am.

The final three regular PGA TOUR events on the schedule are Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas, OHL Classic at Mayakoba in Mexico and the RSM Classic at St. Simons Island which is hosted by Davis Love III.

There is a break during Thanksgiving week, although some golfers may choose to play in Australia during that time.  Jordan Spieth, for example, is the defending champ in the Emirates Australian Open, and he has committed to play there.   Whether he enters additional events in Australia or plays in the Hero World Challenge is not yet known. Spieth’s schedule for the fall includes all four FedExCup playoffs, the Presidents Cup and the Emirates Australian Masters. He has not committed beyond that.

After Thanksgiving, there are three PGA TOUR co-sanctioned, post-season events.  First is the Hero World Challenge which is played the week after Thanksgiving in the Bahamas.  Second is the QBE Shootout (formerly Shark Shootout) hosted by Greg Norman in Naples.

The last event is the PNC Father/Son Challenge in Orlando, Florida.  The Father/Son, which has included some daughters, ends on the 17th of December.  Last year’s winners were David Duval and stepson Nick Karavites.  In previous years, winners included Davis Love III and Dru Love IV and Jack Nicklaus and Gary Nicklaus. Raymond Floyd had a stranglehold on the event in the early years, winning five times, twice with son Robert and three times with son Raymond. Jr..  Daughters have competed in the past, including Gretchen Zoeller playing with dad Fuzzy, and Christina Langer playing with her dad Bernhard. Bernhard Langer has won the event two times with his son Stephen.

That leaves two to three weeks of complete down time in the PGA TOUR schedule, depending on when the Tournament of Champions is slated in the 2018 calendar.
