Tony Romo: Tee time, TV schedule and notes on the quarterback’s PGA Tour debut
Tony Romo may steal the spotlight from the WGC-Match Play as he makes his PGA Tour debut at an alternate field event
Tony Romo’s PGA Tour debut is almost here.
The Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship is a first-year PGA Tour event in the Dominican Republic after two years as a Web.com Tour event. It is opposite this week’s WGC-Dell Match Play in Texas.
The former NFL quarterback turned CBS NFL analyst Romo, 37, will tee it up Thursday off of No. 1 at 8:10 a.m. and off No. 10 1 p.m. with Dru Love, son of Davis Love III, and Denny McCarthy.
The tournament will be aired on Golf Channel 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday-Friday, 2-5 p.m. Saturday and 2:30-5 p.m. Sunday.
Dru Love weighed in on Romo’s range work.
"“His swing looks great on the range, and the noise his ball makes is the same as the guys next to him. He’s taking it really seriously,” Love told the PGA Tour. “As an athlete he prepares for football games weeks in advance like we do (for) PGA Tour events in advance, so I think he’s eager to get going.“"
Romo, who’s playing on a sponsor’s exemption, was just happy he didn’t have to open up his wallet for more range balls.
“It felt like stealing,” Romo joked. “I was like, ‘you could do this all day!’”
Romo is a +0.3 handicap and has advanced to US Open sectional qualifying. Back injuries plagued Romo during his football career. Some speculation hints it makes stringing rounds together difficult, though we shall see.

He’s heard the jokes and the naysayers, but appears to have a healthy attitude going into his debut.
“Golf obviously wasn’t my sport most of my life, but I’ve put a lot of time in preparing for this,” Romo said. “I’ll be prepared to play the best that I’m capable this week.”
