FanSided 250: Brooks Koepka definitely got snubbed

FanSided came out with their FanSided 250 on December 10th, and there was a notable name missing from the list that’s prevalent to the golf world. Brooks Koepka.

We all know who the biggest name is in the golf world. It’s Tiger Woods. He has been since he came onto the scene back in the ’90s, and likely will be for a few more years. There are people challenging him for that title, and one of the front-runners is Brooks Koepka.

I’m definitely going to have to disagree with the powers that be and say that Brooks Koepka should have made it onto the FanSided 250 this year. There were 152 sports-related figures on the list this year. Are you telling me there are over 150 people or groups in sports that were bigger and more buzz-worthy than Brooks Koepka this year?

I say no. I strongly say no.

I can get all the way to 172 (108th in sports) before I see anyone befitting being ahead of Koepka. That’s only because it’s Mike Trout, who is likely going to go down as the greatest baseball player of all-time.

That’s an argument for another day, and likely on another site.

I would say keep going. Possibly stopping at Elena Delle Donne, ranked 148th (92nd). She did bring a title to the Mystics and is one of the best players in all of basketball.

Her and Trout should both be higher. Then again, this is a ranking that includes social media presence and buzz, alongside accolades.

Hmmm. Let’s see here. What golfer dominated the sport, winning multiple events as well as a major, nearly chased down Tiger and Gary Woodland in separate majors, is ranked #1 in the world, and tried to break social media by shunning his girlfriend on the Sunday morning walk to the course during a major.

Yup. It’s the same person for all of those.

Brooks Koepka.

Part of this is golf. It’s quieter than most sports. The players aren’t as noticeable, and the events aren’t covered as much during the majority of the season. Other than the majors, which seem to dominate the headlines. Koepka was in the spotlight all year. From how he played at tournaments, to interacting with the media i.e. the slow play controversy and his thoughts, to being a part of the ESPN body issue.

Koepka was everywhere during 2019. The only place he wasn’t, was a place that he definitely should’ve been… the FanSided 250.
