As golf returns, please, just follow the rules on the golf course

Across the nation, more and more states are allowing your local golf course to open. For everyone’s sake, please follow the rules.

There are times when just about everyone has fudged something on the golf course. Re-doing a putt, a foot wedge, not counting a swing or stroke for some reason, there is all some occasion at a golf course where we didn’t follow the rules to the letter of the law. As golf courses open across the country, I urge you, unlike those times, to please follow the rules.

I know some people out there think it is unnecessary. Six feet apart? Not touching the flag? Not riding with your buddies?

Yes, those are all things you should be doing during a round of golf in today’s uncertain times.

You may not agree with it. Heck, I don’t know if I agree with all of it. There are two reasons to think about it as you do it, and it should be hard for anyone to argue against it.

One, it is going to keep people healthier. Staying apart from other people to most reports you hear, is a good way to avoid catching anything, regardless of whatever it is.

Two, it’s going to keep the golf courses open and show the government that they deserve to stay on the list of places that should stay open. How saddening would it be to find out, that only after a week or two, that there were too many golfers out there who were not following the rules appropriately? That because of the troublemakers, each golf course was once again going to be put on the shutdown list instead of the exempt list.

You should still be able to get out there and golf, and it shouldn’t be any slower than normal. It might even be a bit quicker as you won’t have to travel to two golf balls per cart. From what I have heard, you will be able to buy things from the clubhouse as well, keeping those looking for food or libations happy. I know a lot of people who depend on swing lube and are happy to hear it.

Next. Choosing the right tee box will lower your scores. dark

As much as I want to get around out there in a cart with my buddies, I’d much rather just be out there golfing with them in separate carts of even walking.  It isn’t that hard to follow the rules, so let’s all just take a second to relax, take a deep breath, and follow the rules in an attempt to stay on the path back to normality.
