Tiger Woods and Phil Mickleson meet in “The Match: Champions for Charity”.

For the second Sunday in a row, there will be live golf on television. This week, it’s “The Match: Champions for Charity”, featuring Tiger Woods and former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning against Phil Mickelson and Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterback Tom Brady.

This is the second version of “The Match”, the first of which was a one-on-one match between Mickelson and Woods. In that event, which was in 2018, Mickelson prevailed on the 22nd hole to win, something that Woods surely has not forgotten.

The added element here is the factor that the two amateurs, Brady and Manning, could play in the event. If either of them turn out to be better than the other, it could be a huge advantage to his team. This will be especially true on the back nine, where the teams will play a modified alternate shot format.

Sunday’s event is at Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida. TNT will handle the broadcast, with Charles Barkley as one of the analysts and 2017 FedEx Cup champion Justin Thomas as one of the on-course reporters.

After years of not being close, Mickelson and Woods will join forces again, this time to raise money for COVID-19 relief.

The event is expected to raise at least $10 million toward those efforts.

As for the actual golf, we know what both Mickelson and Woods will bring to the contest. Mickelson brings his go for broke style of golf, aided by his ability to recover from tough situations, especially when utilizing his amazing short game. Woods brings his severe intensity and competitiveness, his ability to make clutch shots and huge putts and the motivation of having lost to Mickelson in the last version of “The Match”.

One thing that may be overlooked leading up to this event is that Woods is a member at Medalist Golf Club. Having some sort of “home course advantage” should be beneficial to Woods and Manning.

In last Sunday’s match, there was plenty of rust from the foursome of Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Matthew Wolff. Many wonder if we will see the same from this group, although it’s honestly hard to imagine seeing Mickelson and Woods not being at the top of their games. Though they have become friends, the two certainly would still like to beat each other.

The prediction here is for some fun, a lot of trash talk between the four players and a close win for Woods and Manning in the end. No matter what happens, it’s good to have live golf on television for a second straight Sunday.
