We have a first in our entries into the top golfers from each state. Our first woman makes her mark for Colorado Golf and its Jennifer Kupcho.

Before we get into this too far, no, Hale Irwin is not actually from Colorado. He moved there when he was young, which makes him ineligible for Colorado. Instead, Colorado Golf gets to claim Jennifer Kupcho as their state’s champion.

There are a few other contenders here. The leading one was Tommy Jacobs. He played back in the ’50s and ’60s, winning a handful of events. His claim to fame would be losing in a playoff to Jack Nicklaus at the 1966 Masters.

Jennifer Kupcho is going to be next up in our series. She isn’t going to be the first surprise, honors which belong to Little Poison a.k.a. Paul Runyan, and she isn’t going to be the last.

However, with the impact of her accomplishments so far, Jennifer Kupcho is the top dawg to play Colorado Golf.

Now, you may be thinking… “Wait, does she even have an LPGA win?”

The answer would be no. She doesn’t. She does have something that Jacobs was unable to do when he took on Jack back in 1966.

A win at Augusta.

Jennifer Kupcho was the winner of the inaugural Augusta Nationals Women’s Amateur in 2019. This is quite the accomplishment and came a year after a couple of other spectacular accolades. In 2018, Kupcho won the Honda Sports Award as the top female golfer in the NCAA. To go along with that, she proved her worth as the top golfer by winning the NCAA DI Championship that year.

She has crushed it so far in her young golf career, holding down the #1 ranking in the amateur side of it for a grand total of 34 weeks, having been there a few different times throughout her career.

Like Tommy Jacobs, she has also finished in second place at a major, doing so last year in 2019. She finished in a T-2nd at the Evian Championship, losing by two strokes.

Although she has yet to find a professional win, everything that she has done so far in her young career, remember she is only 23, is quite incredible. With a college title, a player of the year, second place in a major, and winning the first-ever women’s Amateur at Augusta, she is well on her way to being one of the better golfers to ever tee up.
