Best Golfers from Every State: Nevada Golf and Scott Piercy
We continue our best golfers series as we take a look at Nevada Golf and the best golfer to come from there, Scott Piercy.
With the amount of golf talent to come out of California, like the arguable GOAT in Tiger Woods, you would think that some of that would have bled over into Nevada. Luckily for Scott Piercy, not a lot of professional golfers have been born there.
This doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of them that have claimed it as their home. Players like Rickie Fowler, Kevin Na, and Natalie Gulbis all claim Nevada. Scott Piercy was actually born there though.
That’s why Scott Piercy gets the Nevada Golf honor as their best golfer.

This is a reminder that we aren’t talking about the best people from a state who also happen to play golf. Not all of the people on our list have spotless reputations. (Check back above at El Tigre).
The same can be said for Scott Piercy, and he comes to mind as it was only a couple of months ago. I’ll try and keep it civil in this post, focusing on what has made him the top golf product of Nevada Golf.
It took him a while after graduating from college to actually make it in the pros. Although he turned pro in 2001, he found himself at the Ultimate Game in 2007, an event that he would end up winning along with the $2 million purse. In 2008, he would finish strong on the Nationwide Tour to earn his PGA status for 2009.
He continued his hot play, making it to the top 100 of the rankings by March of that year. It would be enough to keep his tour status, but it wouldn’t last. Finishing outside the top 125 (but inside the top 150), kept some of his status heading into 2011.
I’ve talked about it plenty before, but an alternate event can do wonders for a player, and still counts as a PGA Tour win. Piercy fits into that mold, as he won the alternate event at the Reno-Tahoe open in 2011. Nearly a year later, he earned his second win at the RBC Canadian, a much grander event than the Reno-Tahoe.
After a third win in 2015, Piercy found himself in the running for his first major win. Heading into the final day, he was seven shots back of Shane Lowry and in a T-7th place. The final round gave him a chance as he shot seven shots better than Lowry. Unfortuantely, Dustin Johnson played well in the final day, winning by three shots over Lowry, Piercy, and Furyk, the three of which tied for second place.
Although he didn’t win, it can be argued that it is the biggest accomplishment of his career to finish second in a major. With what he has accomplish against a limited field, Scott Piercy is the top product from Nevada Golf.
