Fantasy Golf First Look: 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions
By Hans Geevers
The PGA Tour will resume tournament play at the 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions. Let’s take an early first look at this event from a fantasy golf perspective!
The Sentry Tournament of Champions is annually played in Hawaii in January. In previous years, to qualify for this tournament a player had to earn a win on the PGA Tour the previous year. However, this year the PGA Tour has made adjustments to the eligibility criteria due to the COVID-19 pandemic disrupting last year’s season. This change is highly relevant to those of us that will be constructing fantasy golf lineups for this event in a few weeks.
The new eligibility criteria for this year’s event will be the following: Winners of PGA Tour events from the 2020 season will continue to qualify for this event. Additionally, golfers who qualified (top 30 in FedEx Cup rankings) for the 2020 TOUR Championship will be eligible for the 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions.

*This article is providing an early first look at my player picks for this event. No Draftkings prices will be noted in this content as the contests have not yet been posted. My more detailed Draftkings Preview will be published a few days prior to the start of the tournament.
Here are my First Look DFS player selections for the 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Justin Thomas
The current third ranked player in the official world golf rankings has simply owned the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. Thomas has played this event five times since 2016. In those five tournaments played, Thomas has three top three finishes, including two wins (2017, 2020).
Thomas fired a first round 66 at the Masters in November en route to an eventual fourth place finish.
Patrick Reed
The 30 year old American has five consecutive top 14 finishes (PGA and European Tours combined), including a third place result at the DP World Tour Championship.
I also like the fact that Reed has a history of performing well at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. More specifically, Reed has four previous top six finishes at this tournament, including a win at the 2015 Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Hideki Matsuyama
Matsuyama finished second at the 2017 Sentry Tournament of Champions. Additionally, Hideki finished inside the top 28 in his last four tournaments played on the PGA Tour in 2020, including a second place result at the Houston Open.
Cameron Champ
The talented long hitting American certainly appears to like playing the Plantation Course in Hawaii. Champ has only played the Sentry Tournament of Champions twice. In those two events played, Cameron has two top 14 finishes, including an 11th place result in 2019.
I also like Champ at this event due to my belief that he will present outstanding fantasy golf value. Why you may ask? Well, I think Draftkings will price the young American in the $7,000 dollar range when contests are posted in January.
Kevin Kisner
Kisner has three consecutive top 17 finishes at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, including a 14th place result last year. The American also finished second at the RSM Classic in November.
I hope this early look at the first event of 2021 was helpful. Good luck!
