By Hans Geevers
This January, the PGA Tour will present the fantasy golf community with the 2021 Sony Open @ Waialae Country Club. Let’s take an early first look at this event from a DFS perspective.
*This article is providing an early first look at my fantasy golf player picks for this event. No Draftkings prices will be noted in this content as the contests have not yet been posted. My more detailed Draftkings Preview will be published a few days prior to the start of the tournament.
The Sony Open has been played at Waialae Country Club in Hawaii every year since 1965. Due to the fact this has been event has been held at the same golf course for such a long period of time, I was able to identify several specific key player statistics that were pivotal to a golfer’s success in the past. Additionally, I was able to identify golfers that have a proven track record of performance at the Sony Open over the course of the last ten years.
Based on my review of previous results/data at the Sony Open, I was able to determine that the following key player statistics were essential to success at the Waialae Country Club: GIR (greens in regulation), strokes gained approach, strokes gained tee to green, and strokes gained putting.
