This week, the PGA Tour presents the fantasy golf community with the 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Before I discuss my fantasy golf and DraftKings player selections let’s look at the golf course the field will play and the key player statistics that I think are the most vital to a golfer’s success this week.

The 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions will be played at the Plantation Course in Kapalua, Hawaii. The Plantation course is a par 73 that measures 7,596 yards. This track offers large fairways and greens. Additionally, the course offers four par five holes and bermuda grass greens.

I should also mention that wind is traditionally a factor at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. As of this writing, the current weather forecast indicates wind gusts of 25-30 mph during the first round on Thursday. The forecast further indicates that the weather will improve greatly the remainder of the event. However, the forecast can change. Having stated that , make sure to keep an eye on the weather forecast closer to the start of the event.

The key player statistics that I will be focusing on this week are proximity to the hole, strokes gained putting, strokes gained tee to green, and strokes gained approach.

*Due to the COVD-19 pandemic causing the cancellation of numerous events last year, the PGA Tour has expanded the eligibility criteria for this year’s Sentry Tournament of Champions. The eligibility criteria for this year’s event will include winners of PGA Tour events from the 2020 season and players who qualified for the 2020 TOUR Championship.

Here are my fantasy golf/Draftkings player selections for the 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions!

Justin Thomas $10,700

Thomas has played the Sentry Tournament of Champions the last five years. In those five events played, Thomas has two wins (2017, 2020) and a third place result in 2019.

The American also arrives at this tournament in outstanding form. Just take a look at the data. Thomas has played five events on the PGA Tour since the U.S. Open in September. In those five tournaments played, Thomas has five top 12 finishes, including a second place result at the ZOZO Championship @ Sherwood in October.

Cam Smith $8,400

The Australian arrives at this week’s event on the heels of three consecutive top 11 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a second place result at the Masters.

I also like the fact that Smith is known to be an exceptional wind player. Cam Smith will adjust just fine to the unpredictable weather that will await him in Hawaii.

Joaquin Niemann $8,300

The 22 year old has five top 23 finishes in his last six events played on the PGA Tour. Niemann also finished fifth at the 2020 Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Niemann is currently ranked 12th in strokes gained off the tee (.745), 12th in scoring average (69.543), and 15th in birdie average (4.71) on the PGA Tour.

Carlos Ortiz $7,100

Ortiz has two consecutive top eight finishes on the PGA Tour, including a win at the Houston Open in November.

In relation to this week’s current listed Sentry Tournament of Champions field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Ortiz ranks fifth in strokes gained tee to green, fourth in strokes gained approach, fourth in strokes gained around the green, and fifth in proximity to the hole.

Mackenzie Hughes $6,800

With my last selection, I am going to take a chance on Canadian Mackenzie Hughes. Hughes has two top seven finishes in his last five events played on the PGA Tour, including a seventh place result at the Houston Open.

In relation to this week’s current listed Sentry Tournament of Champions field, in the last eight rounds played on the PGA Tour, Hughes ranks third in strokes gained putting and 17th in strokes gained approach.

Additional golfers I like this week: Patrick Reed $9,600: Viktor Hovland $9,200.

As always, good luck with your fantasy golf lineups!
