Before I jump into the dark horses for this week, I want to start off with a recap from last week’s Genesis Invitational. My three dark horses were James Hahn, Kyoung-Hoon Lee, and Vaughn Taylor. Despite Vaughn being a lover of the Riv., he did not play well here. Thankfully he was the only one of my dark horses to miss the cut this week. Hahn awoke from the dead and made a charge up the board and above the cut line on Friday with a 5-Under round to put himself at 2-Under for the tournament. He ended up finishing at -4/T15, which is incredible for his salary and DraftKings scoring. K.H. Lee however was doing the best heading into Friday for my dark horses, but ended up just making the cut on the number. On the weekend he fell off the wagon, finishing +9/66th. He got four rounds in, but it did not do a whole lot for DraftKings scoring.

This week, the PGA Tour is heading to The Concessions Golf Club in Bradenton, Flordia for the WGC-Workday Championship. This is normally the WGC-Mexico, but with COVID protocols they will be playing it in Florida this year. This is going to be a great field as all WGC’s are since it is the top golfers from the PGA and Euro Tour.

This week I will be providing three dark horses, meaning players that are longshots, but could play really well for their salary. These dark horses are players that are $7,500 and below. Also I only use DraftKings, so these prices will be for their website, but the players can be used on FanDuel as well.

(I want to throw in that I have no key stats on this course, so I cannot use that this week)

Dark Horse Number 1

Robert Macintyre: Bob is back in America! He is also my first dark horse for the WGC-Workday. Last time he was here was for the U.S. Open when he came in a tie for 56th. He is a fun one for me to play because I don’t do EURO DFS, so I rarely use him. He has been playing incredible on the European Tour with his last five finishes being T29, 3rd, T16, T23, T19. I know it is a different field being the PGA, but clearly he is playing some good golf. Seven events ago he had a win at the Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown. This field has no cuts as all WGC’s do not have cuts, so we get four full days of 6/6 lineups. You have to differentiate your lineup and from what I am seeing early, Macintyre will be a differentiator.

Dark Horse Number 2

Ryan Palmer: Palmer is the second dark horse for me because he has been playing so well. His last five starts consist of T42, T2, T41, 4th, T4. He is so hot right now with his current form. He is 24th in the world and I feel like he is too cheap at $7,200. He also plays well in Florida. The Honda Classic 2020, he came T17. The Honda Classic 2019, he came T4. He did miss the cut in the 2019 Players Championship, and it seems like he does not play the Arnold Palmer Invitational or the Valspar. He also came T15 in his last WGC (FedEx St. Jude). All signs point to Palmer for me with his cheap price in a no-cut event. Four full days of Ryan Palmer should be great for your lineup.

Dark Horse Number 3

Rasmus Hojgaard: Hoj is a solid Euro guy that I think a lot of DFS players will not recognize. I do not play Euro DFS, but he is one of the names I have known about. Looking at his recent finishes he is really good and really bad at times. His last five finishes are T6, T9, T25, T52, MC. He has some great finishes in the past year with a win, a 2nd, a 3rd, two 6th’s, some made cuts with bad finishes, and a good amount of missed cuts. Thankfully, we do not have to worry about a cut being made which is a positive for Hojgaard. He either finishes high on the board or super low on the board. I think he is good if you play multiple entries since there is not that much risk besides finishing low while still getting four full rounds of golf. Low risk, high reward kind of guy this week. I like him a good amount at the bottom of the board that does not have a ton of great value plays.
