Fantasy Golf: Sleeper DraftKings Selections for 2021 Masters
By Kasey Kuhrts
My undervalued and sleeper DraftKings selections return just in time for the 2021 Masters. I’m not sure about you, but it feels like yesterday when I saw DJ win the green jacket, and having another Masters less than six months later has me pumped!
My undervalued and sleeper selections from the 2020 Masters performed well, highlighted by Cameron Smith, who finished in solo second. Along with Smith, four of my five selections made the cut.
As always, check out Hans Geevers full-lineup picks that he posts each and every week. Hans’ article is also great for reading about the course, and how he believes it will play.
And of course, as always in my articles, I am only looking at players under the average DraftKings salary of $8,333. Finding value is the most important thing when making your selections, so I hope to bring you some solid options.
The key stats I will be looking at this week will strokes gained on approach, greens in regulation, strokes gained putting, 3-putt avoidance, and par 5 scoring. Here are my selections:
Cameron Smith $8,200
My 8K selection of the week is Cameron Smith. As I mentioned above, Smith finished in solo second at the 2020 Masters, and became the first player in Masters history to shoot all four rounds in the 60’s.
So far on tour this season Smith sits first in par 5 scoring average, third in three putt avoidance, T19 strokes gained putting, 76th strokes gained on approach, and 97th greens in regulation.
Smith has only missed one cut on the entire season and has seven top-20 finishes. Recently Smith has finishes of T11 at the WGC-Workday and a T17 and The Players Championship.
Some of my other favorite 8K plays include Sungjae Im ($8,600) and Daniel Berger ($8,500)
Paul Casey $7,700
My first 7K selection, and a member of Hans’ list is Paul Casey. Casey is one of the most distinguished European golfers of all time, who has never won a major. Although he has a top-ten finish in all four majors, and top-five finishes in three of the four, is it finally time for Paul Casey to win a major championship?
So far on the PGA Tour this season Casey sits 17th strokes gained approach, 53rd greens in regulation, and T74 strokes gained putting.
Coming into the WGC-Match Play, Casey was red hot. Casey racked up four straight top ten’s dating back to The American Express, highlighted by a T5 at both AT&T Pebble Beach and The Players Championship.
Louis Oosthuizen $7,500
My final 7K selection of the week is Louis Oosthuizen. Oosthuizen was an undervalued selection of mine for the 2020 Masters, and there is no reason to leave him off this time.
So far on tour this season Oosthuizen sits third in strokes gained putting, T16 par 5 scoring average, 74th 3-putt avoidance, and T81st greens in regulation.
In his last seven starts at Augusta, Oosthuizen has racked up five top-25 finishes, highlighted by a T12 back in 2018.
Some of my other favorite 7K plays include Joaquin Niemann ($7,400) and Billy Horschel ($7,200)
Corey Conners $6,900
My first 6K selection of the week is Corey Conners. Corey Conners is incredibly underpriced at $6,900. You don’t often find a player priced in the 6K range coming off four top-20 finishes in his last six starts.
So far on tour this season Conners sits 11th greens in regulation, 13th strokes gained on approach, T44 par 5 scoring average, and T78 strokes gained putting.
Conners will be making his fourth start at Augusta this week, coming off a 10th place finish last year. At this price, Conners might end up being the steal of the week.
Matt Jones $6,300
My final 6K selection this week is Matt Jones. Last time we saw Jones he was absolutely dominating the field in West Palm Beach, winning the 2021 Honda Classic by five strokes. For Jones, it was his first PGA Tour win in nearly seven years.
So far on tour this season Jones sits 24th in 3-putt avoidance, 26th strokes gained putting, T33 par 5 scoring average, 59th greens in regulation, and 99th strokes gained on approach.
Jones will be making his second career start at Augusta, he missed his first cut back in 2014.
Some of my other favorite 6K plays include Kevin Kisner ($6,700) and Ryan Palmer ($6,500)
