Before I jump into this week’s tournament, I wanted to do a quick recap for the 3M Open. My three dark horses were Jhonattan Vegas, Brandon Hagy, Mark Anderson. Vegas came through BIG with a second place finish. He kept bouncing between 1st and 2nd, but in the end Cam Champ won by two strokes. The other two, Hagy and Anderson both missed the cut. Overall a disappointing week even with Vegas coming in second.

This week, the PGA Tour is heading to TPC Southwind in Memphis, TN for the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. WGC’s have the best players in the world, which makes it harder for some of those longshots to be at the top of the board. One that we saw last year was Tom Lewis in a tie for second. Another was Chez Reavie who came in a tie for sixth. To fit in some of those top end guys, you will have to drop down the board to the dark horses and hopefully I can help you find some of those candidates.

This week I will be providing three dark horses, meaning players that are longshots, but could play really well for their low salary. These dark horses are golfers that are $7,500 and below. Also I use DraftKings, so these prices will be for their website, but the players can be used on FanDuel as well.

Dark Horse Number 1

Brian Harman ($7,500): One of my favorite dark horses and for very good reasons. The finishes on tour recently have been incredible! The key stats are great too. I’ll keep it simple, I don’t see how you fade Harman. He will be in my lineup(s).

Last Five Finishes on Tour: 19th, MC, 5th, 19th, 8th

Last Two Finishes Here: Has not played

Key Stats:

SG Putting: 14th

SG Ball Striking: 109th

Par 4 Scoring Average: 43rd

Dark Horse Number 2

Sergio Garcia ($7,300): Another one of my dark horses because he too has been playing good and the stats mostly look right for him. If he can get the flat stick to drop some putts, Sergio will climb the leaderboard. Might be more popular in DFS, but he has a ton of upside.

Last Five Finishes on Tour: 25th, 19th, 17th (Euro), 19th, 20th

Last Two Finishes Here: 35th, 40th

Key Stats:

SG Putting: 189th

SG Ball Striking: 7th

Par 4 Scoring Average: 43rd

Next. Olympic Golf: Winners and Losers from Japan. dark

Dark Horse Number 3

Jim Herman ($6,000): Huge punt, but Hermie is one of my dark horses because he is min price and has four finishes inside the top 30 in the past four events. Sure a missed cut is in there, but the WGC events don’t have cuts. He really does not need to do a whole lot at min price with four rounds locked in. He also saves you salary if you want to jam in the top priced guys. If he finishes half way up the leaderboard in the top 40, that should be more than enough to pay off his salary. Also I am not a fan of the 8K range, so I lean the stars and scrubs approach.

Last Five Finishes on Tour: 20th, 28th, 25th, 26th, MC

Last Two Finishes Here: Has not played

Key Stats:

SG Putting: 163rd

SG Ball Striking: 49th

Par 4 Scoring Average: 145th
