Patrick Reed Makes The Tour Field Despite Absence
Patrick Reed either has the best luck in the world, or the worst. I think you can make a case for both, but Reed was involved in a just a small nugget in what was an amazing day at Caves Hollow in Baltimore.
As many of you know by now,he did not play in the Wyndham Championship, The Norther Trust, or the BMW Championship because he was hospitalized with bilateral pneumonia.

We did get some good news this week as Reed told Golfweek that he had been released from the hospital this week and had returned to his Houston home.
“I’m doing well,” Reed told Golfweek. “I’m home recovering and looking forward to getting back out there real soon.”
You might be thinking to yourselves “That all sounds pretty bad. What part of getting pneumonia is good luck?” Well, none of it is, pneumonia is garbage, but despite not playing the Wyndham, Northern Trust , and the BMW, Patrick Reed has qualified for The Tour in the 30th and final spot in the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Unfortunately, I don’t think Reed will be able to play this week at East Lake, though he has not been ruled out, nor has he withdrawn from the event. If he was able to play, he would start at even par, 10 shots behind playoff leader Patrick Cantlay after his win at the BMW Championship.
Don’t get me started on the format of The Tour, I absolutely hate it and I think it’s dumb, but that’s a story for another time.
Patrick Reed does indeed simultaneously have the best and worst luck. He did make The Tour, but to come down with bilateral, or double pneumonia while the playoffs are going on is about as bad a time of the year as could happen to someone. Time will tell if this could also effect whether Steve Stricker wants to pick him for the Ryder Cup, as Reed is outside of the automatic qualifying spots.
It’s great that Patrick Reed is resting at home now, he will be back on tour very soon. I really hope that he’s able to play on the Ryder Cup team, because we know how he plays during that showdown. He’s not called Captain America for nothing.
