The 2021 Tour Championship tees off this week at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The Top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings have qualified for this week’s events meaning that almost all of the world’s best players will be in attendance this week.

Every group will be worth watching this week but a few stand out. Here are the top groups to watch at East Lake on Thursday and Friday.

More from Pro Golf Now

Patrick Cantlay and Tony Finau – The guys who have won the two playoff events so far this season are in the same group for the first two days. They also happen to be the top two players in the FedEx Cup standings. Cantlay starts the event with a two-shot advantage over Finau but expect them both to be near the top of the leaderboard early in this event.

Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm – The two guys who probably should have won the first two playoff events are in the three and four spot heading to East Lake. DeChambeau blew his chance last week at the BMW Championship and Rahm probably should have won at the Northern Trust. Now, they are both starting behind Cantlay and Finau and have ground to make up.

Cameron Smith and Justin Thomas – This is where you start looking for someone who can go low and come from off the pace. Smith shot a 60 two weeks ago at the Northern Trust, so there’s no doubt he can go low. Thomas has proven throughout his career that he’s able to do so as well. That’s what it will take this week for these two players.

Jordan Spieth and Sam Burns – Spieth comes into the event in ninth place. However, he has won here before (in 2015) and will not be intimidated by the situation or having to make up ground on the leaderboard. Burns will be making his first trip to East Lake. He will do his best to go really low and try to get himself into contention.

Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson – OK, it’s not likely that these guys can come from so far off the pace, but stick with me for a second. DJ is starting seven shots behind the leaders and McIlroy eight. DJ won here last year and Rory has won here twice. What if they both get it going on Thursday and Friday and ride the momentum up the leaderboard? It might not happen, but it will be fun if it does.
