The Ryder Cup competition between Europe and the United States begins this week at Whistling Straits Golf Course in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The top 12 players from each side will meet with the winner taking home one of the most coveted trophies in golf.

As the teams prepare for competition, we will be doing the same by previewing the players in this year’s event. Today, we look at Team USA’s Brooks Koepka.

Ryder Cup experience – This will be Koepka’s third Ryder Cup appearance. He was on the U.S. side in 2016 and 2018. Overall, his Ryder Cup record is 4-3-1, including a 1-1-0 mark in four-ball, a 2-2-0 record in foursomes and a 1-0-1 showing in singles.

Worldwide experience – Koepka has won 14 times as a professional, eight on the PGA Tour and six on the European Tour. Among those wins are four major championship titles. Koepka won the U.S. Open in 2017 and 2018 and won the PGA Championship in 2018 and 2019.

What to expect – Koepka’s health may be the biggest question of the week. He withdrew from the Tour Championship a couple of weeks ago and he says he’s “good to go” at the Ryder Cup. Still, until he plays in the heat of battle, no one is really sure.

Koepka has been criticized by some, including former U.S. captain Paul Azinger, for his comments about the Ryder Cup. While he may sound like someone who doesn’t care for the event, Koepka’s results still show that he’s been pretty good for the U.S. side.

Then there’s the Koepka-Bryson DeChambeau situation. The two have gone back and forth on social media, trading barbs with each other. How will that dynamic play out in the U.S. team room?

If Koepka can just play golf and do his thing, he will be find. Avoiding all of the distractions may be one of his biggest challenges this weekend.
