TPC Craig Ranch just seems like a course Dustin Johnson ought to eat up. He’s got the length to handle this nearly 7,500-yard test. He can thrive in a birdie fest like we saw at the 2021 AT&T Byron Nelson.

You don’t win 24 times without being adaptable to different course styles.

With that said, I don’t think he needs to veer off his usual game plan to get it done this week.

Johnson enters the week well-rested having taken the last three tournaments off. Some of it was spent on his wedding and honeymoon with longtime fiancee, Paulina Gretzky. As if a guy like him needed any help getting over a rare missed cut at the RBC Heritage, those big life moments will certainly help. That was just the second time he’s missed a weekend on the 2021-22 PGA Tour season.

The 37-year-old’s had a solid campaign that’s just missing a victory. DJ finished top-10 at the Players Championship, advanced to the WGC-Match Play semifinals, and was T-12th at the Masters.

The Coastal Carolina alum ranks 25th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.465) and is 26th in birdie average (4.21). Hitting enough fairways can occasionally be an issue, but he’s lethal when he does find the short grass. Johnson is third in fairway proximity (27’10”).

It’s wild to think that DJ’s never won in Texas. To be fair, he often skips many of the tournaments in the Lone Star State. Now that he’s here at the AT&T Byron Nelson, I expect him to throw his hat in the ring for the title.
