The PGA Tour returned to Torrey Pines for a double dose of action along the cliffs of La Jolla. Two weeks after the second signature event of the year at Pebble Beach, some of the best in the world teed it up in signature event number three on the season; the relocated 2025 Genesis Invitational.
After hosting the Farmers Insurance Open last month, Torrey Pines played host to the Genesis Invitational after the event was relocated this season due to the tragic wildfires in the Los Angeles area. With big names like World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama, Jordan Spieth, and others all in attendance, golf fans were anticipating a star-studded and thrilling finish to the Genesis Invitational. But that wasn't exactly how things over the first couple of days at Torrey Pines played out with Spieth missing the cut and Scheffler and McIlroy going backwards on Moving Day. Instead, it was two players in search of their first PGA Tour wins who emerged.
Patrick Rodgers made certain that he would be the man they all would attempt to catch during the final round after a 4-under 68 on Moving Day secured the 32-year-old a slim advantage atop the leaderboard. Denny McCarthy, runner-up with no cigar on several previous occasions including at the Memorial Tournament in 2023 and the Valero Texas Open last year, sat just one shot adrift of Rodgers' lead after three rounds at the 2025 Genesis Invitational.
Two players in search of their first PGA Tour win, a final round pairing of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, and a host of contenders in hot pursuit of the leaders, meant the 2025 Genesis Invitational was set up for a great finish down the stretch. Whether it was Rodgers, McCarthy, Ludvig Aberg, or any of the other contenders in hot pursuit going into the final round who emerged triumphant, the champion of the season's third signature event was set to earn a handsome winner's share of the massive prize purse. But exactly how much was on the line at the Genesis Invitational in 2025, though? Let's take a look at the total prize purse, the winner's share, and the payout distribution by finishing position at the last stop on this year's West Coast swing.
Genesis Invitational purse 2025: Total purse and winner's prize money
Another signature event, another massive prize purse. Following in the footsteps of The Sentry and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the purse for the Genesis Invitational in 2025 is set at a whopping $20 million with the champion at Torrey Pines taking home a handsome $4 million winner's share. This marks the third consecutive season that the Genesis Invitational has divvied out a $20 million prize purse to its field after holding signature or designated status in both 2024 and 2023. The $20 million prize is a substantial increase from the 2022 edition of the tournament which had a purse of $12 million.

The signature events on the PGA Tour continue to represent some of the largest prize purses the pros will see this season with only the upcoming Players Championship and one or two of the majors likely to surpass the humongous $20 million prizes. Obviously, all of this is reflected in the payout distribution with the top 4 finishers at the Genesis Invitational in 2025 taking home seven-figure paydays. Meanwhile, each of the top 36 finishers in this limited field will clear over $100k in prize money.
In addition to taking home a $4 million winner's share, the biggest prize for winning a signature event so far in 2025, and all of the other perks that come with winning a big-time event on the PGA Tour, the 2025 Genesis Invitational champion will also receive 700 FedEx Cup points in the season-long race to East Lake and the 2025 Tour Championship later in the year. The PGA Tour returns to Mexico next week for the 2025 Mexico Open at VidantaWorld.
