On Monday night, The Bay Golf Club (0-2-0) looked for their first victory of the 2026 TGL season against Los Angeles Golf Club (1-1-0).

The Bay sent out two TGL rookies, Luke Clanton and Neal Shipley, to join the wily 27-year-old veteran, Min Woo Lee, while Los Angeles sent out a much more experienced group in Tony Finau, Tommy Fleetwood, and Sahith Theegala. Finau and Fleetwood also made their 2026 TGL debuts in this matchup.

Triples

Both teams showed some early nerves and rust on the first two holes. Bogeys were the result for both teams on these holes, as there were no points scored until the third hole. Min Woo Lee bounced back in a big way this match after playing poorly two weeks ago in a blowout loss to Boston Common. He hit his par-3 tee shot to within nine feet of the hole, and Clanton was able to make the birdie putt to send The Bay to an early and much-needed lead.

Unlike their last match, The Bay used a successful Hammer on the next hole as Fleetwood missed an 18-foot putt to tie the hole, which gave The Bay a 3-0 lead.

Lee did a good job talking with his young teammates all night on Hammer strategy and putts, and we saw it pay off on several occasions. As he usually takes a back seat while playing with his veteran teammates, Shane Lowry and Wyndham Clark, it was good to see Lee step up in this leadership role.

On the fifth hole, "Set in Stone' made its TGL debut as a compact 110-yard par-3, playing slightly downhill.

Neal Shipley stepped up to the tee box, not knowing he was about to make history. As he hit his shot, Shipley stared on, as he knew the line was good. The ball hit behind the pin, skipped slightly, and spun backwards directly into the hole. His teammates met him in front of the tee box, celebrating as the 1,500-strong crowd at SoFi Arena exploded with cheers.

This hole-in-one was the first in TGL history, as we also saw the first albatross by Justin Rose earlier this year. In an interview with Shipley after the shot, we learned that his teammate Luke Clanton called the ace while they were walking back from the fourth green. It was an electric moment that highlighted how TGL separates itself from the traditional golf experience.

Los Angeles was able to take advantage of The Bay's excitement as they converted on a successful Hammer and two penalty shots, which cut the lead to 4-3. Heading into the ninth hole, Los Angeles was looking to tie the match heading into the Singles portion of play until Finau hit his 3-wood out of bounds. The Bay was able to win the hole with a par as they took a 5-3 lead after nine holes of play.

Singles

In the opening Singles hole, 22-year-old Clanton faced Finau as The Bay threw the Hammer, with Clanton holding a six-foot eagle putt and Finau an 11-footer. Finau barely missed his putt while Clanton walked in his eagle putt for a commanding 7-3 lead. Once again, Los Angeles did not go away quietly. Shipley conceded the next hole to Fleetwood, and the Bay wisely declined a Hammer after Theegala put his tee shot to within eight feet of the hole.

Down two points with three holes remaining and both teams still holding a Hammer, Clanton and Finau tied the 13th. On the par-3, Shipley and Fleetwood both put their tee shots to within 17 feet. After Fleetwood missed his putt, the Bay threw their last Hammer, forcing Los Angeles to accept. Shipley, the man of the match, buried the putt and secured the two points and the victory for The Bay. Lee ended up winning the last hole with an LA Hammer and won by a final score of 11-5.
