Based on history, the Masters could be Scottie Scheffler's last win of 2024
Scottie Scheffler just won the Masters to continue his incredible start to the 2024 season. He is clearly the best player in the world right now. However, based on recent history, the Masters may be the last tournament that Scheffler wins in 2024.
The Masters could be Scottie Scheffler's last win of 2024
Scheffler has really been the best player in golf since 2022. He got his first PGA Tour victory at the Phoenix Open that season which seemed to open the floodgates. He won the Masters that season as well and then went on to win The Players the following season in 2023, a title he defended in 2024.
In total, Scheffler has 9 victories over the last three seasons, including his two green jackets. He is on an incredible and historic run. The crazy thing is that he could have won even more if his putting was as consistent as his ball-striking has been the last few years.
His incredible start to 2024 already has oddsmakers salivating over the possibility that the Texan could capture the grand slam by winning all four majors in the same calendar year. It is understandable why this speculation exists since he has looked so dominant this year, but there is also a chance that the Masters could be the last time he wins in 2024.
If you look at Scheffler's success on the PGA Tour, he has only won events in the months of February, March, and April. In 2022, the Masters was his last win of the year. Last season, The Players was his final victory. To be fair to Scheffler, he did win the 2023 Hero World Challenge but that is in a small field and is not considered a PGA Tour win.
Of course, it is not as if Scheffler has missed the cut in every event he has played after April. He has contended in plenty of tournaments, including several major championships, but just has not been able to get the victory.
It seems unlikely that Scheffler will not win again in 2024, but it is not impossible. As easy as Scheffler makes the game look at times, it is really hard to win on the PGA Tour. Plus, we know that his putter can run cold for long stretches so it is possible that that club could plague him over the summer.
Some may be ready to crown Scheffler as the grand slam winner already, but recent history suggests it will not be quite as simple as some people think.
