Wyndham Championship could be last dance for Jordan Spieth until 2025
Jordan Spieth has had a rough 2024 season. He has not been in contention that much and has had to deal with a nagging wrist injury. It is because of that poor performance and injury that this week's Wyndham Championship could be the last time we see him on the golf course for a while.
Right now, Spieth is on the bubble for the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Jordan Spieth is currently ranked 63rd and needs to remain in the top 70 in order to make it into the Playoffs. He has not had a top-10 finish since April and has really just struggled to get anything going.
If Spieth misses the cut this week and falls outside the top 70, we may not see him tee it up competitively for quite some time.
Jordan Spieth could be on the shelf after this week
This week, Spieth hinted at the fact that he may have to get surgery on his wrist in the offseason. The offseason could start pretty soon for him if he does not play well this week. That would likely mean that we do not see him until 2025 if he misses the playoffs and then has to get surgery.
Spieth has not been off in all facets of his game this year. His driving has been arguably the best in his career. Yet, his iron game, short game, and putting have not been as great which is usually where he thrives when he is playing well.
Spieth has been battling for a few years now. It seemed like he was getting back on track in 2021 and 2022 when he got back in the winner's circle and even contended in a few majors. Last season he should have had at least one or two wins but was unable to get the job done.
Unfortunately, it seems like he is regressing back to where he was in his lost years from 2018 to 2020 when he was really struggling.
One hopes that if he does get surgery on the wrist it helps him get back on track. Who knows how long he will be out, but you know he will want to be ready to compete in April of 2025 at Augusta National where it will have been 10 years (boy does time fly by) since he won his Green Jacket back in 2015.
The game of golf is better when Spieth is playing well. He is one of the most entertaining players in the game. Let's hope that he can get healthy and get back to being golf's most entertaining player in 2025.
