ZOZO Championship tee times, format, field, purse, how to watch
The PGA Tour returns to Japan this week for the sixth edition of the ZOZO Championship, and the fifth edition of the event at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club. The event, which was held in California in 2020 as a result of the pandemic, marks the fifth of eight FedEx Cup Fall events in 2024.
The ZOZO Championship has historically featured one of the strongest fields of the PGA Tour's Fall Swing and this year is no different with three of the world's top 10 OWGR-ranked golfers in attendance. Japan's Hideki Matsuyama returns home looking to win the event for a second time after his triumphant victory at Narashino CC in 2021.
The ZOZO boasts an impressive list of champions in its brief history thus far and two of them are in the field for this year's edition. The aforementioned, Matsuyama, who narrowly lost out to one Tiger Woods in the tournament's inaugural edition, and last year's winner Collin Morikawa, who won in impressive fashion beating the rest of the field by six strokes. World No. 2 and two-time major winner this year, Xander Schauffele, returns to action for the first time since the Presidents Cup last month. Other notables teeing it up this week include Sahith Theegala, Sungjae Im, Justin Thomas, Will Zalatoris, Max Homa, and Rickie Fowler, to name a few.
With stars in attendance, a unique format, and crucial FedEx Cup points on the line with limited opportunities remaining, the 2024 ZOZO Championship is set to deliver plenty of drama and excitement as the tour returns to Japan for the only time this season. Let's take a look at all of the information to know including this week's tee times, the field, format, how to watch, and more ahead of this week's action from Narashino CC.
ZOZO Championship tee times, field
Here is a look at the tee times and groupings for the first and second rounds at this year's ZOZO Championship.
2021 ZOZO Championship winner Hideki Matsuyama will begin his quest for title number two alongside Si Woo Kim and Justin Thomas at 9:29 a.m. local time while defending champion Collin Morikawa will begin his title defense about an hour later alongside Sahith Theegala and Will Zalatoris at 10:35 a.m. local time. A couple of other notable groupings and tee times include Max Homa/Sungjae Im/Kensei Hirata who get underway at 9:18 a.m. local time and the trio of Xander Schauffele/Rickie Fowler/Min Woo Lee who will begin their championship at 10:24 a.m. local time.
Here is a look at this week's complete 78-man field for the 2024 ZOZO Championship.
As mentioned, this week's limited 78-man field at the ZOZO is headlined by defending champion Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, and Hideki Matsuyama, who all rank inside of the top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings coming into this year's event in Japan. Since the initial field release, Emiliano Grillo withdrew from the event and will be replaced by alternate Carson Young. The ZOZO Championship doesn't hold open qualifying for its event, so the 78-man field is set barring any additional late withdrawals.
ZOZO Championship format, purse, prize money
As previously mentioned, the ZOZO Championship will welcome a limited 78-man field this week to Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club. Unlike the vast majority of events this FedEx Cup Fall, the ZOZO will not feature a cut after 36 holes of action, instead, the entire field is guaranteed all four rounds this week similar to the signature events on the PGA Tour schedule earlier this year.
The purse for the 2024 ZOZO Championship is set at $8.5 million with this year's champion in Japan set to take home a $1.53 million winner's share. Unlike a few of the FedEx Cup Fall events this year, the ZOZO Championship won't see a reduced purse divvied out to its field in 2024, instead, it maintains an $8.5 million prize purse for the second year running making it the largest of the FedEx Cup Fall season thus far.
