Hyo Joo Kim, smooth as silk from tee to green, is a long shot to hoist the Globe this year.

Hyo Joo Kim has had an amazing rookie year on the Tour. No doubt about it.  Ranked 9th in the world by Rolex, Kim has delivered week after week of championship golf.  She’s started 23 events, claimed a victory at the Founders Cup when she just flat outplayed Stacy Lewis, missed only one cut, albeit a big one — the US Women’s Open.

I love Kim’s style.  She’s smooth as silk from tee to green, she generally stays out of trouble and she comes out of sand effortlessly.  She’s steady, dependable and accurate with her flat stick.

Under other circumstances I’d view Kim as a likely spoiler this year.  But she’s working with late-season injuries.  Her withdrawls at the Sime Darby and the Blue Bay are troublesome, even with her T6 finish at the Japan Classic.

Like Lydia Ko, Kim is not in the field at the Lorena Ochoa.

While it’s not outside the realm of mathematical possibility that Kim could win the Tour Championship — she certainly has the game — for her to also capture the Globe would require that those above her all suffer a serious lapse in that final competition.  Still, it’s possible, just not likely that Hyo Joo Kim could be a spoiler this year.
