Rocket Mortgage Classic: 2020 staff picks to win in Detroit
The PGA Tour heads to Detroit to play the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Here are the staff picks to win.
If you’ve been following along to our picks lately, you’ve had the opportunity to do pretty well. We look to make it three weeks in a row that we’ve given you the winner from our staff picks, and look to do it again at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Two weeks ago, current leader Richie Randolph gave you Webb Simpson. It was his third correct pick of the year, which also leads the way. Meanwhile, it’s two wins over the last five weeks for Kasey Kuhrts, who now sits in third in our standings and is making a strong charge.
The clear front-runner belongs to one of the more dominant players since the PGA Tour started back up, the bulked-up long-bomber himself in Bryson DeChambeau. Taking a glance over at the odds on ActionNetwork.com, you can see he is out on his own at the top of the leaderboard.

Until then, here are the staff picks to win the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Bryson DeChambeau
Mike Randleman – The first three weeks back have all been at short courses. Now, we come to a big ballpark that fits his bomb and gouge style well. DeChambeau ranks first on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (1.098). He’s second in total strokes gained (2.102) and only trails Tyrrell Hatton. DeChambeau has 34 measured rounds by Shotlink and Hatton has 12.
BillFelber – This… week… I… will… select… Bryson… DeChambeau… This… week… I… will… select… Bryson… DeChambeau… This… week… I…
Tim Letcher – I wrote about his chances at winning early this week… will Bryson DeChambeau win at Rocket Mortgage Classic?
Richie Randolph – With three straight Top-10’s since the PGA Tour’s return he is currently the hottest player in the world. Throw in seven daily protein shakes and he has to be considered the favorite this weekend!
Kathy Bissell
Patrick Reed
Chris O’Day – Uuurp… I think I just threw up a bit. I can’t stand Patrick Reed. He and Sergio can take a long drive… I’ll stop before I get in trouble.
Even though I don’t like him, he is having a good year. Currently 5th in the FedEx Cup rankings, he has a win, a second-place finish, five top tens, eight top 25’s, and has made the cut in nine of 11 events. He has been crushing it putting, ranking 4th in strokes gained on the season at nearly a full stroke per round. His only downfall this week may be the length, as it is set up more for bombers, and Reed struggles there. Oh well, throwing my cards in on Reed… Let’s go Reed (Uuurp.)
Viktor Hovland
West Valentine – I want to pick Bryson again. The course at Detroit Golf Club is a Donald Ross with very little elevation changes. That means driving distance will really be important. No big bounces or downhill runners. Bombers will have an advantage.
With that said, I’m going with Viktor Hovland. He’s not the longest hitter, but he’s accurate. He’s also been very consistent since the restart and he’ll win soon, if not here.
Doc Redman
Cam Cobey – Doc has put together some good scores recently, finishing T21 at the Heritage and T11 at the Travelers last weekend. He also finished 2nd in last year’s Rocket Mortgage. He’s a bit of a shot in the dark, but he has great odds and could very well win this tournament that doesn’t have the strongest field.
Tyrrell Hatton
Hans Geevers – He has eight top 18 finishes in his nine golf tournaments, including a win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational earlier this year.
Hideki Matsuyama
Kasey Kuhrts – Hideki wasn’t good in his first event back two weeks ago in South Carolina. But after taking last week off, Hideki is a headliner in the weakest field since the return of golf. With that being said, Hideki is currently 7th on tour in strokes gained on approach, an important stat this week in Detroit. He averages over 300 yards off the tee, and if he can be above average with the putter, I think Hideki has as good a chance as anyone this week at the Rocket Morgage Classic!
That’ll do it this week for the staff picks to win the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Good luck everyone!
