The Ryder Cup competition between Europe and the United States begins this week at Whistling Straits Golf Course in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The top 12 players from each side will meet with the winner taking home one of the most coveted trophies in golf.

As the teams prepare for competition, we will be doing the same by previewing the players in this year’s event. Today, we look at Team Europe’s Sergio Garcia.

More from Pro Golf Now

Ryder Cup experience – You want Ryder Cup experience? Look no further than Sergio. He first played in the event in 1999 as a 19-year-old. He also appeared in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018. He has a 22-12-7 record overall and has accumulated more Ryder Cup points than any player in the history of the event. He’s 8-4-3 in four ball, 10-4-3 in foursomes and 4-4-1 in singles.

Worldwide experience – Garcia has 36 wins as a professional, including 11 on the PGA Tour. His biggest win came when he claimed the green jacket by winning the 2019 Masters. His most recent win came at the 2020 Sanderson Farms Championship.

What to expect – If you have watched any of the Ryder Cup competitions over the last 20 years, you know exactly what you’re going to get from Garcia. He’s going to be fiery and competitive and he’s going to do his best to get under the skin of the Americans. That’s simply what he does and he’s very good at it.

Fortunately for Garcia, and maybe unfortunately for the Americans, Garcia saw a bit of a career resurgence during the 2020-21 PGA Tour season. In addition to his win at the Sanderson Farms, he did enough to make it to East Lake and the Tour Championship.

Garcia will be himself in this event. He will score points for his side and will be an emotional leader for his team. We would not expect anything less from him.
