Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic Predictions and TV Schedule
Sweet Home, Alabama! It’s time for the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic in Prattville at the RTJ Trail at Capitol Hill – Senator Course before hitting the road — or the airways in this case — and heading for France and The Evian Championship.

I can’t think of a nicer place to bring this portion of the season to a close. The Capitol Hill-Senator track was named among the top-10 golf courses in the country by Golf Magazine. Nestled into the lovely rolling hills of Alabama, The Senator is a Scottish-Links style course with beautifully manicured Champion greens and more than 160 pot-hole bunkers and mounds ranging in height from 20 to 40 feet that create the illusion of a secluded setting for each hole.
Defending champion MJ Hur will lead a field that also includes past champions Stacy Lewis (2012), Lexi Thompson (2011) and Katherine Kirk (2010) as well as a new face or two, including the Tour’s newest rookie, Brooke Henderson.
Henderson has joined a rookie class that’s distinguished itself with decisive wins by Sei Young Kim, Hyo Jo Kim and Minjee Lee who are all teeing it up at Capital Hill this week.
I’m not surprised to see standout Crimson Tide golfer Emma Talley in the field. Talley, who’s playing this week on a sponsor invite, has been testing the LPGA waters for a year or more and captured the individual championship at the NCAA Division I Golf Championship in May. She’ll be well worth watching, as will her former college roommate, Stephanie Meadow, who has been struggling this year to find her rhythm on the pro golf stage.

The par 72 Senator will play 6955 yards for the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic. The Senator track is open and tends to favor long hitters. Gerina Piller’s not in the field this week but keep an eye on Brooke Henderson, Lexi Thompson and Brittany Lincicome. They should have a slight edge. However, the contoured approaches and putting surfaces are going to demand a precise short game as well. Here Stacy Lewis and Hyo Joo Kim could strut their stuff.
The oddsmakers are giving Stacy Lewis a slight edge over Lexi Thompson, Hyo Joo Kim, and Brooke Henderson. I wouldn’t disagree with that ranking, but I also see a possibility for two players whose games are peaking right now — Austin Ernst and Mirim Lee — to emerge from the pack. And this is the kind of golf course that could bring out the best in Charley Hull. If Lewis wants this win there’s a substantial mob of players who are going to make her work for it.
Golf Channel will provide daily coverage of the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic: Thursday, August 27 and Friday, August 28: 11:30am-1:30pm; Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30, 5-7pm, all times ET. ProGolfNow will provide a daily recap and you can follow the action live on the LPGA electronic leaderboard.
